Is the organic clothing industry a profitable one?
I’m thinking of designing my own organic/sustainable shirts and I want to know if there is a growing market for this company.
I would suggest you do a Porters 5-forces analysis or simply research the market. Retail is weak right now and the buying power of customers is weak. Specialty products like organic clothing have rarely been profitable because of the increased costs. This is the reason you don’t see many ethical leather stores.
It is an interesting idea, but because of the premiums that would be charged in order to get the clothing that would then be passed down to the customers I don’t think many would bite with such limited spending power. I would suggest waiting to the end of the economic recession at least.

I dont know, since it takes the horrid chemicals to break down plant fibers into thread so we can make clothes, the only natural clothing would be wools and animal furs. I never buy wool or anagora and of course I dont wear animal fur. Study how plants are broken down into fiber/thread, and study all the methods used in our history as its recorded. Id like to see somoene start making more bamboo clothing options, and cheaper, but alas that is a huge checmical ordeal to make the bamboo finbers, but I tell ya, my bamboo sheets are so awesome!! Good luck on that hun, just remember, people want to spend less these days and a new company would need to charge so much and invest so much, it may actually be easier to look at what companies are making profitts and go from there with ideas on what to manufacture.
