The first organic clothes recorded were leather, animal skins according to ancient scripts and records.

The orientals, I thought, created silk, and linens where in Europe. Rafia (grass skirts) and abaca (rope-like) were in the islands, as well as anahau, and cotton was in Turkey, the finest one, anyway, ..everyone still loves the Turkish cotton the best, and wool seemed to be everywhere sheep were, Europe and New Zealand. Then you have cashmere, alpaca, and others…that’s my folklorish memory.

But recently, woods pulps have been discovered for clothing, like Tencil, and bamboo! In the 80s rayon and ramie were popular.

But Wikipedia can probably give the history of ‘natural textiles’ or about natural fabrics and their origins.

‘Organic’ clothing was ‘re’-invented recently because the skin is the largest organ in the body and very permeable to toxins.

So the term ‘organic’ triggers the idea of non-toxic fabric now, yet all the above ones can be in a toxic environment and still been termed ‘natural’, so I’m not sure of your true question.
In reference to the power of non-toxic clothing, the skin is vulnerable.

The news one day, was reporting about preventing poisonings in children and they said what to do
if the child ingested a certain poison.

They then said that luckily a child would likely survive the poisoning from that item because less poison is assimilated into the blood stream through the mouth than if they had gotten contact through the skin, in which case the child would likely not have survived, because the skin is a quicker entry into the blood stream for most substances.

Another example is with the old brass keys that contained lead. Handling them just once to open a lock was enough personal lead contamination to the user to create a toxic affect to the point even of causing brain fog, as well as the other affects of lead.

Using water bottles (and some fabrics are made from them, recycled) which contain estrogens, causes sufficient extra estrogen both through ingesting the water and handling the bottle or wearing the clothing, plus handling other plastics (including touching any plastics-based fabric textiles or items) to now have caused the average child an earlier puberty of some 18 months, yet their brain is not furthered in maturity to match this problem, and the plastic uses have also caused feminizing of many males in general because of the hormone estrogen.

There are also other toxins like pesticides that accompany these vehicles straight into our blood streams as humans.

I was listening much about all this on Wash DC NPR where some doctors were discussing the problem.

But ‘Greenfibres’ will do special orders. They will make up clothes for you to be exactly as you want them. You could stipulate that the stitching must be organic, too. Or ask them if all their clothes are stitched using organic materials.

It is an interesting idea, but because of the premiums that would be charged in order to get the clothing that would then be passed down to the customers I don’t think many would bite with such limited spending power. I would suggest waiting to the end of the economic recession at least.
