I don’t have any fancy Tupperware or anything. I do have ziploc. I’m just wondering is in the fridge better or on the counter? Sealed in a baggie or out in the open? Does the "crisper" drawer really help?
It doesn’t matter if it is organic or not, the pesticides are not on your produce-that is part of the growing process. You spend the extra cash to purchase food that tastes better and is safer to eat, and you don’t want it to languish in storage. Eat it! Figure out your meal plans and that should help you decide how much to buy and how long it will last. If something ripens a little early, eat it up. Tomatoes, bananas, avocados, strawberries, peaches, lemons, potatoes are not refrigerator residers. If you want fruit to ripen a bit quicker, put it in a brown paper bag and close it up. The ethylene gas will help it ripen. Adding a banana will speed this process up. If you want it fresh and tasty, buy it a tad under-fully ripened and put it on your windowsill. Check for softness and smell. Fruit smells so good when it is ready to eat. I have bowls of fruits in cooler parts of my kitchen. The lemons in a bowl are gorgeous to look at too.
